When recording the human voice one of the hardest thing to get right are the plosives. It’s important for a good sounding recording to even out the volume of them compared to the rest of the voice. The problem is, those damn s’s, p’s and t’s pop out like a jack-in-the-box!

My apologies for not posting today. I did a shootout today, comparing the latest and greatest and will do the final tests tomorrow. Don’t fret, I’ll be back tomorrow (which might actually be tonight depending on where you live) with tips on the best de-essers, perhaps some info on de-essing and… well, talking about de-essing!
This week I’ll also talk about a few other oddities among dynamic processors that can be well worth checking out for podcasters. Stay tuned!

I have launched a new music review blog called Record Rocker available at www.recordrocker.com. I will review both new and old albums (music is timeless) from both established and un-established independent artists.
In fact, if you’re doing music I’ll be happy to review it. Submitting music for review is easily done using the form here. If you don’t have an album send me your Myspace link or your bands website.
But beware! I’m a total jerk when it comes to music reviews
I’ll not be running Record Rocker by myself. Free foe is already helping me out and more authors will join later.
If you want to do link exchanging then add www.recordrocker.com to your links, shoot me an email (stiff [at] recordrocker [dot] com) telling me you’ve done so and give me the link to your music or audio related website.
The page is still in a form of beta and the design will be modified later but I couldn’t wait to make it public!
Enjoy, and don’t forget to sign up to the RSS feed.

Again two short clips on the same DJ wired theme, and again they can be used for breaks.

Now this looks interesting. Out of pure luck I just found out about this new broadcast microphone when double-checking that I had the right URL for Blues website. I haven’t received any press release about it, and all that I can find about it on their website is a one page PDF filled mostly with the regular marketing blurb.
A few things worth to mention:
- It’s Blue, so it looks great.
- Features “phantom power pure dynamic technology”. I don’t know if it means anything or if it’s just marketing gibberish, but it requires phantom power.
- Supposedly has consistent sonic quality whatever you plug it into. Yeah right, like you can just remove the mic preamp from the calculation. Allow me to enter skeptic mode.
- Has a bass roll-off switch.
- It will be released in August and I’ll try to get ahold of one for review.

I just received a press release with new pictures on the Blue Microphones Snowflake (previous post), apparently the first pictures were of a prototype. Since I think this mic is drop-dead gorgeous I’ll post them. I don’t know anything about the quality of the mic. Blue calls it “the portable first professional USB microphone”, a statement that possibly could be criticized from more than one angle. If I ever lay my hands on one I’ll let you know.

Here are two short clips from the exact same theme as the last DJ Wired. These can be used for breaks between segments, FX or anything like that.
As with all clips on Audival, you can use this for free in your podcast
