Times when you like Apple - or three steps to making a video podcast

Anyone doing video podcasts here? Or thinking about it? In that case you should check out iMovie. It’s an incredibly easy way to give your video recordings a few basic effects. I tried it for the first time a couple of days ago, editing my video diary from Musikmesse.

So much gear…

spur_gear.jpg

When I walked around at Musikmesse in Frankfurt I realized that there were a lot of recording gear aimed at amateur musicians, i.e. interfaces that lets you connect your iPod and has two channels with microphone preamps… Or something along those lines. I often report about these type of interfaces here as well, because I think something like that works well for podcasting. The more I think and write about podcasting however, the more I feel people should just get one of the many USB microphones out there.

Going to Musikmesse…

I’m going to Musikmesse in Frankfurt today to check out what’s happening in the world of audio and music. I hope to bring you some good news for podcasters from there. Stay tuned…

Around the corner…

I’m just writing to tell you a little about what’s happening here and what you can expect to see in the future here at Audival.

Probably a few more reviews. First and foremost iZotope RX. I’ve been thinking about a couple of other things as well, but I want to make sure that it’s of interest to people. It’s unlikely that most podcasters reading this will spend $500-$1000 on a software plug-in, so I really need to find out where to draw the line.

I’ve been thinking about doing some videos and post them here. Sometimes when I discuss audio editing and such, it might be hard to follow, and a video would probably be easier. I’m still thinking of the best way to pull this off.

If you’re a long time reader, you might think I repeat myself at times in the Audio lingo section. Fear not, I’m not getting senile. The Audio lingo section was requested for making it easier on the readers to look up terms that might not be in everyone’s vocabulary. Prior to it’s existence I had to explain those terms in posts whenever I used them. So… I repeat those explanations in Audio lingo for search purposes. Great huh?

I usually update on weekdays but sometimes - like this week - I have a hard time getting it together time-wise. My apologies for that. I’ll of course make it up to you in the weekend.

If you have any suggestions to what you want to see here, just let me know and I’ll see if I can pull it off.

Shure podcasts

Shure - one of the leaders on microphone manufacturing - has several episodes of their podcast (or Shurecast as they call it) on their website. I’m listening to the episode on SM58 and SM57 as I’m typing this. While they’re plugging their own products a lot, there’s also a fair share of information.

Some of the more interesting parts includes the drop test, the military connection, and the difference between the SM57 and SM58. They’re talking mostly about musical application and the microphones in general, but their microphones can certainly be used for podcasting… As you might know

Shurecasts.

Tips on getting started

If you’re looking for some reading on how to get the gear to get started with video podcasting, or if you just happen to think Saturdays are boring and need something to do, then perhaps these articles on Journalism.co.uk (three parts) could be of interest.
