When running a podcast, it often comes to the point where you have to interview someone and the only solution is to do it over the phone – we reviewed some good tips and tricks for doing these interviews properly a while back. However, using a calling card can help you manage your budget more easily, and shave some money off the charges you’re paying on those constant, long-duration calls.
Using a phone card for the purpose of a phone interview usually proves very efficient when you’ve got a large number of people to go through in your interviews, and you’ve also got access to good deals on the cards themselves. Make sure you manage your time and schedule properly though – you certainly don’t want to buy a bunch of cards only to find out that they don’t fit the schedule you’ve developed earlier properly!
On the other hand, a phone card may not always be the most convenient solution, if timing is an issue, and you can’t find access to places where you can use your card quickly enough. It all depends on how well you can adjust the new method to your current situation, and if you’re creative enough (which any good podcaster should be!), you should be able to figure out a solution that both benefits your finances and allows you to get the most out of your time when interviewing people for your next issue.
